He portrayed Alfred Doolittle in <em>My Fair Lady<\/em> and Herod in <em>Jesus Christ Superstar<\/em> at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. With the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Doug was Emile de Becque in <em>South Pacific<\/em> (cover). He has also been heard as <em>Sweeney Todd<\/em>, Tony in <em>The Most Happy Fella<\/em>, Albin in <em>La Cage Aux Folles<\/em>, Tevye in <em>Fiddler on the Roof<\/em>, Max in <em>Sunset Boulevard<\/em>, and Javert in <em>Les Mis\u00e9rable<\/em>, among others.<\/p>\n<p>In opera houses across the United States, Doug\u2019s operatic portrayals have included the title roles in Verdi\u2019s <em>Rigoletto<\/em>, <em>Macbeth<\/em> and <em>Nabucco<\/em>, as well as Germont in <em>La Traviata<\/em>, Count Di Luna in<br \/>\n<em>Il Trovatore<\/em>, Renato in <em>Un Ballo in Maschera<\/em> and Iago in <em>Otello<\/em>; Puccini\u2019s Scarpia in <em>Tosca<\/em>, Michele in <em>Il Tabarro<\/em>, the title role in <em>Gianni Schicchi<\/em>, Marcello in <em>La Boheme<\/em> and Rance in <em>La Fancilla del West<\/em>; Mozart\u2019s Count Almaviva in <em>The Marriage of Figaro<\/em> and Papageno in <em>The Magic Flute<\/em>, as well as Rossini\u2019s Figaro in <em>Il Barbiere di Siviglia<\/em>, Leoncavallo\u2019s Tonio in <em>I Pagliacci<\/em> and Mascagni\u2019s Alfio in <em>Cavalleria Rusticana<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Some recent engagements include Bach\u2019s <em>Christmas Oratorio<\/em> with the Angeles Chorale, Renato in <em>Un Ballo in Maschera<\/em> at Wichita Grand Opera and Opera San Luis Obispo, Amonasro in <em>Aida<\/em> at West Bay Opera, Alfio in <em>Cavalleria Rusticana<\/em> at the International Opera Institute in Palm Springs, Germont in <em>La Traviata<\/em> at Repertory Opera Company in Los Angeles. Doug sang Bach\u2019s <em>St. Matthew Passion<\/em> with the Los Angeles Master Chorale. With the Monterey Symphony Orchestra he sang Brahms\u2019 <em>Ein Deutsches Requiem<\/em>. LA Opera chose Doug as Amonasro in <em>Aida<\/em> where he sang two weeks of staging rehearsals and covered that role.<\/p>\n<p>Doug\u2019s concert repertoire includes songs by Rodgers &amp; Hart, Rodgers &amp; Hammerstein, Lerner &amp; Loewe, Jerry Herman, Frank Loesser, Alfred Newman, Cole Porter, Stephen Schwartz, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and John Williams, among others, as well as large scale works for orchestra and chorus and recital works for voice and piano by John Adams, Bach, Beethoven, Alban Berg, Ernest Bloch, Brahms, Handel, Ibert, Korngold, Mahler, Mendelssohn, Messiaen, Ravel, Rimsky-Korsakov, Schubert, Schumann, Sch\u00f6nberg, R. Strauss, Stravinsky, Tosti and Vaughan Williams, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Doug was a prizewinner in the Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition and a member of the San Francisco Opera\u2019s Merola Program and was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
